MISPLACED TRUST
By W. G. Guy
TRUST is defined as: to have confidence or faith; a place or position of security in what is true and honest; an emotional and spiritual refuge from a threat, harm or the unknown.
The Bible places much emphasis on TRUST; however, many people put their trust in that which is not true or honest. This is the result of deception, a tool of the enemy, both physical and spiritual. Thus there is misplaced trust; trusting in that which is unreliable or false.
What should you have trust in is a question that everyone needs to address. It is foolish to put trust in man due to the weakness of their flesh and selfish lusts.
Psalm 118:8 – – It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.
It is foolish to put trust in government, kings, princes and human rulers.
Psalm 118:9 – It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.
You certainly cannot put trust in a political system that is corrupt and self- serving: much like in America today. This applies to both Democrats and Republicans; and to most politicians who are liars in order to achieve their political status. In fact, we have recently seen that even our federal judicial system cannot be trusted: nor can the mainstream news media be trusted, or the pharmaceutical industry; because they all have a selfish agenda for money and control.
It is also foolish to put trust in man’s military might because it can fail and be defeated.
Psalm 20:7-8 – Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the LORD our God. They are brought down and fallen; but we are risen, and stand upright.
Consider what God’s Word has to say about trust, (which topic is mentioned numerous times just in the Book of Psalms; following are just a few verses):
Psalms 7:1 – O Lord my God, in thee do I put my trust; save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me:
Psalm 34:7-10 – The angel of the Lord encampeth round about them that fear him,
and delivereth them. O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trustesth in him. O fear the Lord, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. The young lions do lack and suffer hunger: but they that seek the Lord shall not want any good thing.
Psalms 37:39-40 – But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.
Psalms 91:2 & 4 – I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in whom will I trust. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Psalms 125:1 – They that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abideth for ever.
When you put your trust in the LORD you are giving Him the responsibility for your life, and He will watch over you to guide, provide and protect you.
Proverbs 29:25 – The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe.
Proverbs 30:5 – Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
When the wicked and corrupt rule over a people, they are not safe or secure, and have much to beware of. This causes mental and emotional torment.
Proverbs 29:2 – When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice:
but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
Putting your trust in God, even while the wicked impose their corrupt legislation, you can still have peace because your confidence in a higher authority.
Isaiah 26:3-4 – Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the Lord forever: for in the Lord JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.
When you put your trust in God, Jesus Christ and His Word, you will likely find yourself at odds with man’s system of control. This even occurs in the church that man has built. *
Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord with all thy heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
You may not understand why things are going the way they are, but you don’t have to if you put your trust in the LORD,
because He knows how to see you through.
So how do you build your own trust in the LORD? Study His Word, and get to know Jesus intimately, and He will lead you through all so that you can endure and come through victoriously.
2 Samuel 22:3 – The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; the God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my savior; thou savest me from violence.
