NON-HUMAN BEINGS IN THE BIBLE
By W. G. Guy
In view of the fact that society is currently being inundated with information about the presence of UFO’s, UAP’s and aliens, assumed to be extra-terrestrial, it is important for us to not be deceived by such beings and recognize that non-human beings have been with us since the beginning of man’s existence.
Consider that the Bible clearly states that we are in a state of conflict with non-human or spirit beings. These are creatures that are mostly unseen and cause myriads of problems for mankind by oppressing and controlling thoughts or actions when tempted and yielded to.
Ephesians 6:12 – For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Obviously these beings are nefarious and meant for our destruction as servants of Satan whose purpose is the opposition and destruction of mankind.
John 10:10 – The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
This opposition to mankind is because God has blessed man to be with him in His glory. Man, made in the image and likeness of God, lost that God likeness by the wiles and subtly of Satan using the serpent, another non-human creature, in the Garden to de-throne man from God’s elevated position to have dominion over all the earth; a position that was formerly held by Satan in the distant past.
Genesis 1:26-27 – And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Man replaced Satan, the anointed cherub that covered (ruled) the earth; Satan wanted to regain this elevated position over mankind so he worked his cunning plan to gain control back; which he did when he got mankind, to submit to his temptation. The devil even bragged about this when he tempted Jesus with the same temptation as he used on Eve.
Luke 4:4-5 – And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.
Thus the kingdoms of this world are not actually controlled by man but by those men who are unknowingly yielded to the devil. This is why Jesus needs to return and take over bringing His kingdom – (Revelation 11:15).
Jesus came to redeem mankind and restore him to God’s original plan for mankind. This redemption process has been going on now for thousands of years as God wanted the earth to re-populated with mankind, as originally stated.
Genesis 1:28 – And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Thus mankind has had to deal with non-human beings ever since whose efforts are a threat to God’s plan for mankind. However, we need to recognize that God, through Jesus Christ, has given us power and authority to defeat these non-human beings, just as He did when He was upon this earth. These non-human beings are referred to as demons, evil spirits, principalities and powers, rulers of darkness, as listed in Ephesians 6 previously. This is also verified in the following:
Ephesians 3:10 – To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
Colossians 2:15 – And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
In addition to these non-human beings, there are many other creatures in the Bible that are non-human, and that only few people have encountered in the past. These are angels, who God called to be ministering spirits on our behalf.
Hebrews 1:13-14 – But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
Several of God’s people have met or seen these non-human beings as they have been sent to fulfill God’s purposes to those they were sent to. Many of these angels take on human form and appearance so as not to be recognized,
Hebrews 13:2 – Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
Thus it is not strange to understand that the angels that followed Satan in his rebellion against God can also change their appearance to be seem as something other than what they really are: perhaps even as alien beings or extra-terrestrials.
2 Corinthians 11:14-15 – And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
Therefore we need to recognize that these spirit beings have the ability to transform themselves into forms that are meant to deceive us into believing they are something other than what they really are. This is where the spiritual gift of “discerning of spirits” is a necessity for us to employ. This is one of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit that our LORD has provided to us in the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12: 4-10 – Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
1 John 4:1 – Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
In addition to the non-human beings already mentioned in the Bible, there are others that God has created that attend to His will and purpose; some of which surround His throne. Beside His heaenly host of angels there are Archangels; Cherubim’s; Seraphim’s and also multi-headed, multi-winged and multi-eyed creatures that are not otherwise identified.
In Genesis we read about a being that seduced Eve into transgression. This was a non-human being that was able to converse with her, having intelligence and knowledge that a normal animal type being could not have. This being was used by the devil to tempt and destroy Eve, and later Adam also. God later cursed this creature to live like a snake and crawl on the ground.
Genesis 3:14 – And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
Obviously this creature that the devil used was not originally a snake but something else that Eve could interact with, that is, until it was cursed by God to live like a snake. Note the term “serpent” as used in the Bible has different and deeper meanings. Using the Strong’s Concordance let’s examine the term serpent as used in Genesis 3:14.
Strong’s Hebrew 5175 - nawkhawsh – serpent; which comes from Strong’s 5172 which means to hiss or whisper enchantments, divination, or prognostications; this implies one who can communicate on a spiritual level. Not simply a snake.
Other words used for serpent are the Hebrew tan and tanneen as found in Exodus, Isaiah and Ezekiel and means a monster, dragon, a sea monster or large marine animal, a jackal, or other land animal, and a poisonous (fiery) snake.
In the New Testament Greek serpent is Strong’s 3789 – oproos which refers to sharpness of vision, one that is sly, cunning, serpent like; a reference to Satan.
Thus the creature that Eve dealt with in the Garden is not anything like we have ever dealt with in that same form. Likewise there are other forms of beings that we are not familiar with; such may be revealed in the days that lay ahead before the return of Christ.
Is it possible that some of these spiritual beings will try to represent themselves as divine visitors; or as false Christs, false anointed ones who will try to deceive us. Will they claim that they are the ones who made man and placed him on earth?
Matthew 24:24 – For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
Jesus said deception will mark the last days and certainly Satan is master of deception, the liar and father of liars – (John 8:44). The way to not be deceived by any means is to know the Word of God and be empowered by the Holy Spirit so as to recognize who and what they really are, and resist that which is false.
