SHAKE – SHAKE – SHAKE
By W. G. Guy
About sixty years ago Jerry Lee Lewis had the number one hit song called “A WHOLE LOT OF SHAKING GOING ON”. Today the world has a whole lot of shaking going on. This shaking is political, financial, social, technical and even spiritual. Such shaking is actually prophesied in the Holy Bible:
Hebrews 12:25-27 – See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him (God the Father) that spake on earth, (from Mt. Sinai), much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven: whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
Jesus also spoke that a shaking is to occur in the last days prior to His return. This is because God is not the only one that is shaking things up. Satan has been doing a whole lot of shaking against true believers throughout history as he tries to steal, kill and destroy. Thus we need to keep looking to Jesus, and the promises of the Word of God, which is able to sustain us in any and all trials: However, trying times will continue to occur as Jesus foretold, and will increase in these last days.
Luke 21:25-28 – And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
This final shaking appears to have already begun, yet more is still to come so that everything that can be shaken will be shaken. Not only the physical and natural created things of this world are shaken, but also every institution of man: so things which cannot be shaken will remain standing. What is it that cannot be shaken and will remain? The only thing that is unshakable is the rock, Jesus Christ, and the Word of God, upon which we stand by faith, and which are eternal.
Things in this world seem to getting more chaotic and turbulent with every passing day. About fifteen years ago, while I was praying, the Spirit of the Lord spoke to my spirit saying, “Things are not what they appear to be”. This clearly means that there are sinister things that are going on behind the scenes that we do not see or hear about. This indicates the working of evil and wicked spiritual forces are motivating much of what we see and hear. This means that we are not seeing or hearing the truth about many matters.
Such unseen forces shows a need for discernment in God’s children in order to recognize what is really going on. However, the average Christian is lacking in this ability to recognize or discern what is real and what false. Having the required spiritual discernment requires a close walk with the Lord Jesus, along with a real knowledge of His Word. This is because nothing is hidden from the LORD and He can reveal the truth to you if you have eyes to see and ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.
Matthew 11:15 – He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Revelation 2:7 – He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
Obviously there is much to endure as the shaking is going to affect everything that we know. Even personal lives and experiences are being shaken. So how will you endure? Where is your trust and confidence? If it is in man you are in trouble.
Psalms 118:8-9 – It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes (rulers or government leaders).
If it is not in the Lord and His Word then you too will be shaken. As the return of Jesus nears things are going to get very turbulent. Jesus warned about this multiple times.
Matthew 10:21-22 – And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death. And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.
Matthew 24:12-14 – And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
Being grounded in the Word and on the Rock of faith in the LORD Jesus Christ is the only means of enduring all the things that are coming and will be shaken at the conclusion of this age.
John 14:6 – Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
There is no other way to survive and endure the shaking.
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 – Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.
So, if you are “all shook up”, turn to Jesus and His Word for a firm foundation to rest upon!
