TECHNOLOGY – The Modern Tower of Babel
By W. G. Guy
This article is copied from the LOGOS LETTER which I published in October 1996. I am republishing it now with an update as this topic is more relevant today than it was twenty-eight years ago.
Using the scriptures I have tried to get a picture of what things will be like in the 1000 year reign of Christ, after He returns and sets up the next millennium. Without going into a lot of detail, I shall sum up what I have concluded about the coming time of peace and rest, the true Sabbath that we believers have been waiting for; the seventh millennial day.
People will return to being an agrarian society (farming); however, with a major difference. Farming will be done God’s way which means a great increase in productivity with minimal effort; and no weeds or consuming insects to deal with.
Life will be more relaxed, less harried and stressful. Relationships will be pure. People will be honest. Basically, we will have everyone living the way God would have them to live. This is what God instituted when He first formed man and placed him in that marvelous garden to tend. That was all corrupted by the interference of Satan, which afterward, God issued a series of laws to regulate and govern man’s actions and manner of living among His chosen group of people.
However that select group of people were noncompliant because of their carnal and sinful nature. That was until God sent His Son to provide a new life by being re-born in their spirit by Jesus Christ. Thus we who believe are promised a place in the next millennium where conditions will be totally changed to what God had originally planned for mankind.
One thing that I realized that was missing was TECHNOLOGY. Technology has been man’s means of developing things and the means whereby man makes living easier; gives him more control over his environs and other people. He also uses technology for solving problems, providing health and healing, traveling, pleasure and recreation, communications and entertainment, and researching or exploring new frontiers.
In the millennium we will not need technology since, in our relationship with God, all such things will be provided. We will depend on Him for all such things, and technology, or man’s creativeness, will not be needed. In addition, there are several professions that will not likely be needed as we will rely on what God has provided to meet the needs that these forms of employment provide; (I will let you think about those such professions).
In this life man has come to depend on technology for sustaining and advancing his quality of life. Therefore technology has become our modern day Tower of Babel. We fail to realize just how dependent we have become on our technology; and there are some people that seem to worship technology: I-phones, TV’s, computers and several other items. Consider how much time and attention people devote to their I-phones.
Technology is man’s way of obtaining what God said He would provide if we would put our trust in Him and seek Him for such things. But, NO, mankind couldn’t do that; we would rather do it ourselves. This is exactly what Nimrod did when he united all the people of his time to advance their own cause in the face of God, thus mocking Him.
I have seen evidence that Satan and his hoard of angels and demons have been providing revelations of so-called technology to mankind throughout history; revealing dark mysteries and guiding certain people to build abominable things of destruction and horror. They have also come up with means to pervert human minds and bodies to go contrary to the way and purpose that God made them; like multiple genders. Even more horrible and abominable technological devices and procedures are waiting in the wings to be use against populations as this age comes to an end; devices that antichrist will employ in gaining his dominion and to gain control of people’s lives.
Technology is man’s substitute for God. It is like man saying, “we will do it our way; we don’t need God, look what we can do; God doesn’t even exist; we are attaining to godhood; we are gods”. This is what they did when they built the Tower of Babel, aspiring to reach heaven in defiance of God.
When man substitutes his own developments and technology in place of his dependence on God, man forgets God; then denies God’s existence. Is this not what you hear from many of these intellectual technical types today?
In the coming millennium there will be no need for technology because everything we need and want will be supplied by, through or with God, and our personal relationship with Him. Consider this:
1 Corinthians 2:9 – But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
In fact, even more than we can imagine will be available to us; things that seem to be unreachable at this time.
Romans 14:17 – for the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
Technology cannot provide for us the blessing of what God has planned for us.
Psalm 16:11 – …in thy presence is fullness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
Technology has become predominate in modern day life, and it is almost a form of worship and devotion. Everywhere you go you see heads bowed down accessing this technology. We tend to glorify and dignify technology as we become so focused and dependent on it: like our computers, I-phones and all the latest gadgets. We have become so dependent on it that we have turned our back’s on God, spending most of our waking moments focused on a tech screen.
Will God once again judge our modern Tower of Babel, our technology, as He did in Nimrod’s day? Actually I don’t think that God will have to take action to judge. I think that our technology is about to bring judgment upon us by itself. Current developments in AI, (artificial Intelligence), is creating a potential means of self-destruction. Robotics and other forms of technology are endangering mankind, and the earth itself. In fact it may get so bad that:
Matthew 24:22 – except those days be shortened, there shall no flesh be saved.
God will have to save us from our own technology before mankind destroys himself.
In the next thousand years, with Christ as supreme ruler over man and the earth, we will have absolute dependence on God’s provision. He will meet every need and fulfill every desire, and there will be no danger to anyone, just peace and security with absolute provision and blessing.
In the past technology has been a tool of Satan. Yes, godly men have used these tools for God’s purpose also; but the end of this age shall reveal just how dangerous and horrible what it is we have had our hands on.
In the Book of Enoch is a record that much of the technology used by the ancients was brought to mankind by the fallen angels. These angels, walking in defiance of God; began show men how to refine metals, how use various crafts to build things and structures; how to make and worship idols; how to make and use chemicals and drugs (pharmacology); and how to engage in the
mystical, magic, sorcery, and things of evil (the dark and forbidden arts); possibly even alien types of space craft.
In the future, communications will be divine and instantaneous; travel will be divine and instantaneous; health will be divine; knowledge will be divine and great revelations will be common to all. We will not need the things that technology provides for us as today; there will be no dependence on technology – ONLY ON GOD! So it appears that modern technology is nothing more than a form of modern Babel.
