WHAT HAPPENS IN THE LAST DAYS ?
By W. G. Guy
Jesus said that very specific things would happen at the last day, also called “the Day of the Lord”. The last day refers to the end of this age when everything changes and comes under His absolute control as His kingdom age begins. This means that there is much to look forward to as believers in Him. What we have to look forward to is His glorious coming and the resurrection. Obviously it will be a time of such a great display of God’s power in and through His servants as that day approaches.
Yes it is the day of the resurrection of the dead; but even much more so.
John 6:38-40 – For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
This is God’s plan of redemption, to raise up His children in this special last day.
John 6:44 – No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
Only those who receive Jesus as savior, the Bread of Life, will be raised up to join Him.
John 6:54 – Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
Jesus taught this resurrection as He traveled throughout the land, as Martha acknowledged.
John 11:23-24 – Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
Knowing and receiving His Word is the key because His words are Spirit and Life.
John 12:48 – He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
Please recognize that Jesus warned us that there would be impostors posing a His ministers and preachers in these last days.
Matthew 7:22-23 – Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Many people will not recognize that the last days are upon us because they are too busy focusing on the things of this world and listening to the false prophets. Thus many will be deceived and unprepared.
Matthew 24:36 – But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
The day and hour are unknown, (but not the year and season which are indicated in scripture), thus it shall come unexpectedly.
1 Thessalonians 5:2 – For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
2 Peter 3:10 – But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
For unbelievers and the wicked, who have not repented of their sins and turned to accept Jesus the last days, will be very fearful, because the “Day of the Lord”, is also called “the day of darkness”. These are the days of His wrath on the children of disobedience; the children of the devil, the wicked.
Isaiah 13:6-11& 13 – Howl ye; for the day of the Lord is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty. Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man's heart shall melt: And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames. Behold, the day of the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: the Lord cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it. For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine. And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the 13 Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the Lord of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.terrible.
Isaiah 34:8 – For it is the day of the Lord's vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion.
Only the wicked need to fear because their eternal destiny is at stake.
Joel 1:15 – Alas for the day! For the day of the Lord is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.
Joel 2:11 & 31 – And the Lord shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp is very great: for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the Lord is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?
The prophetic Word that was given by Joel was brought forth by Peter on the Day of Pentecost. But that prophetic word applies for the last days that began at Pentecost and continue until the return of Jesus at the last day.
Joel 2:28-32 – And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call.
We know that his prophetic Word covers the two thousand years, (the last two millennial days) because part of this prophecy has not yet been fulfilled. This is the part that says, ”The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come” has not occurred yet.
Therefore there is still time for people to accept Jesus as their savior, to repent and return to the Lord.
Joel 3:14 – Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision: for the day of the Lord is near in the valley of decision.
Again, the events of the very last days are still yet to be fulfilled, but there is not much time left. Many events of the very last days will occur in the mid-east, most ly dealing with Israel and Jerusalem.
Joel 3:15-18 – The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining. The Lord also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the Lord will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel. So shall ye know that I am the Lord your God dwelling in Zion, my holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more. And it shall come to pass in that day, that the mountains shall drop down new wine, and the hills shall flow with milk, and all the rivers of Judah shall flow with waters, and a fountain shall come forth out of the house of the Lord, and shall water the valley of Shittim.
For the heathen, the wicked, the sinners, the children of the devil, these approaching days will be horrifying as God deals with the wicked.
Revelation 6:15-17 – And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
Amos 5:18-20 – Woe unto you that desire the day of the Lord! to what end is it for you? the day of the Lord is darkness, and not light. As if a man did flee from a lion, and a bear met him; or went into the house, and leaned his hand on the wall, and a serpent bit him. Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, and not light? even very dark, and no brightness in it?
Jesus repeats the warning of Joel to advise us what to look forward to.
Luke 21:25-28 – And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken. And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
The last day is also one of reward, or recompense: one reward for the wicked and unbelievers, and another reward for the righteous children of God through Christ.
Obadiah 1:15 – For the day of the Lord is near upon all the heathen: as thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee: thy reward shall return upon thine own head.
Malachi 4:1-3 – For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch. But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall. And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts.
The very last days could be like the Day of preparation of the Coming of the Lord. This will very much be like when John the Baptist preached to prepare for the first coming of the Lord. There will likely be a latter day team of the Lord’s servants who are to prepare for the final harvest with an anointing similar to the ministry of the prophet Elijah that God had on John the Baptist.
Malachi 4:5-6 – Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord: And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
The last days are the days of harvest. When is harvest time? WHEN THE FRUIT IS RIPE AND READY!
Matthew 9:37-38 – Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
God’s special ministers, who are called for these last days, are to help ripen the His fruit in His people, This is the Fruit of the Spirit, which is the character and nature of God, His likeness that was lost due to sin, and is being restored in the believers.
There are two harvests that are coming, one is for the righteous, God fearing, Christ loving saints; the other for the wicked who have rejected and opposed Him.
Revelation 14:14-16 – And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle. And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped.
This is the harvest of the righteous; next comes the harvest of the wicked.
Revelation 14:17-20 – And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe. And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.
Jesus warned that as in the days of Noah so it would be when He returns.
Matthew 24:37-39 – But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
It is important to recognize that the flood was the means that destroyed the wicked is also the same means that spared the righteous as they rose above the flood having made the preparation by the Word that God gave to Noah, who then was obedient to His Word.
I believe that God is calling for a unique group of His ministers to come out of the Institutionalized Religious System, (I.R.S.), equipped with the Elijah anointing on them to prepare the harvest of the last day and to purify the saints and ready them for Christ’s return.
1 John 3:1-3 – Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
Are you among the Chosen to help prepare the Lord’s harvest? These last days are going to be exciting for some and horrifying for others. Make sure you are on the right side as one of God’s loved children through faith and obedience to Jesus Christ.
