A SIMILARITY BETWEEN KING DAVID & JESUS CHRIST
By W. G. Guy
In 1 Chronicles chapter 22 to 29, scripture records how King David planned for the building of the Temple of God along with the complete staffing of personnel for the operation the temple. He even arranged to acquire and stock pile all of the building materials needed to complete the Temple. This included the timers, stones, marble, iron, gold, silver, brass and iron. He also arranged to get the skilled craftsmen needed to do the work. However, he was not allowed by God to erect the temple: that job was left to his son, Solomon.
In addition to the building materials, King David set in order the entire personnel staff of the Levites for the service of the temple. He not only gave them their specific assignments, but also the rotation or their service, (courses or periods).
John 14:2-3 – In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
Jesus appears to be doing a similar work to King David; not only in preparing a future place for us, but in setting up His Kingdom’s government, assignment of personnel and positions.
Isaiah 9:6-7 – For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even forever. The zeal of the LORD of Hosts will perform this.
Please note that Christ’s true followers are referred to as lords and kings under Jesus who is called “Lord of lords, and King of kings”.
Revelation 7:14 – …..and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.
In a parable Jesus indicates that the reward for faithfulness is a position of leadership in His government over His Kingdom.
Luke 19:16-18 – Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities. And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.
Consider also that King David paid for the building materials for the temple: just as Jesus bought and paid for His current temple, which is composed of His faithful followers who will inherit His Kingdom.
1 Corinthians 3:16-17 – Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
Thus we believers must keep ourselves holy unto Him in order to be qualified to be rewarded with positions of authority in
His Kingdom.
Currently we are waiting for His kingdom to be fully staffed with personnel: waiting for the last of the believers to be added to the company. Then He comes to gather us together to be with Him in His Kingdom as kings and lords in His government, (or divine monarchy). That day, which appears to be coming soon, is awaiting or the last persons to come to Christ to fulfill the ranks of His government. We are to be assisting in this that Jesus referred to as the “harvest”.
Matthew 9:37-38 – Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
Are you assisting Him in bringing in the harvest of souls, praying as a faithful follower of Jesus for His laborers? King David had many people helping him just as Jesus has His many people helping Him! Are you one of them?
