EXPOSING A FALSE DOCTRINE – Part 2
By W. G. Guy
This expose is a continuation of the original article and exposes an additional false doctrine that is accepted in much of the organized or institutionalized church. This second false doctrine claims that the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is not for today; that the supernatural workings of the Gifts of the Spirit ceased, which defies the Word of God for which the apostle Paul wrote:
1 Corinthians 1:7 – so that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Most churches have no knowledge of the workings of the Holy Spirit; many churches deny that it is for today; and some churches actually teach that it is of the devil, in particular the speaking in tongues. Such churches fail to recognize that such a doctrine, saying the gifts of the Spirit are of the devil, is actually blasphemy of the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 12:24 and 31-32 – But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils. ……..Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
(Note: Jesus spoke this to those who said that He was casting out demons by the power of Satan, which is calling the Holy Spirit evil - blasphemy.)
In keeping with the statement from Billy Graham on our dependence on the Holy Spirit, (as stated in the original article), we need to understand the vital importance of the Baptism with the Holy Spirit for all believers in these last days. Since the church will be going through the period referred to as the great tribulation, we need to be endowed with the power of the Holy Spirit; not only to be a living witness for Christ, but also to sustain us in the face of persecution and tribulation. As recorded in the Bible, we in America will not be exempt.
2 Timothy 3:12 – Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
It is vital that we understand the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives as Jesus promised. Consider what it is that the Holy Spirit does for and in us:
John 14:26 – But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
The Holy Spirit will teach us the Word and promises of God that we will need to live and to survive in evil times. He will also remind us of things we have been taught, His Word and promises, and to bring them to our attention when we need to be reminded of them.
John 16:13-14 – Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
He, being the Spirit of Truth, will guide us in all truth. This means that He will keep us from being deceived. This is very important because Jesus told us that in these last days deception will be great, getting people to believe things that are false and wrong which will increase the levels of sin and corruption in our society.
Matthew 24:24 – For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
Next, the Holy Spirit informs us of the perfect Will of God and Christ as He speaks those things to us directly from the throne of God: whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak. In addition the Holy Spirit will show us things to come; this includes warnings, preparations to make, and advance notices of what to look out for and to prepare for.
He shall help us to testify of Christ, glorifying Him as He reveals the deeper things of God and of Jesus, and shows them to us. By His amazing ability, the Gifts of the Spirit (1 Corinthians 12:8-12), and the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), we will be empowered to be Christ’s witnesses during this time of great spiritual darkness. Then we will be able to endure to the end and show forth the light of Christ that is in us to this dark and corrupt world:
Matthew 24:12-14 – And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.
Therefore, be filled with the Spirit and do not be distracted or burdened with the things of this perverted society - (see Luke 21:25-36).
The churches that deny and oppose the Baptism in the Holy Spirit need to wake up to the truth and embrace what God gives
to us.
Ephesians 5:14-18 – Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;
This promise of receiving the power of the Holy Spirit is from God and is for the entire Body of Christ right up to the end of the age:
Acts 2:37-39 – Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
Yes we will face difficult and burdensome times, but remember:
Romans 8:18-19 – For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
To quote from an old hymn: It will be worth it all, when we see Jesus.
The teaching on the Baptism with the Holy Spirit is vital in these last days. It can be referred to as the outpouring of “The Latter Rain” – (Joel 2:23).
James 5:7 – Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
Acts 2:17-20 – And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18 and on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: 19 and I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: 20 the sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
Please note that the last days began with the ascension of Jesus back to the Father. We are now at the end of last two millennial days, (of two thousand years), and the events of verses 19 and 20 have not occurred yet, so they are still in our future.)
Finally, another reason why we need to be endowed with the power of the Holy Spirit is that He produces the Fruit of the Spirit in us.
Galatians 5:22-23 – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Notice the very first Fruit is LOVE. What is the Great Commandment? LOVE. Why is love so important? It is the character and nature of God and Christ that He wants seen in us. THE FOLLOWING IS SO IMPORTANT FOR THE CHURCH TO KNOW:
1 John 4:7-21 – Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world. Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us. If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
This Fruit is the character and nature of God as it was fully manifested in Jesus Christ. This equips believers to be like Him – Christ in you the hope of glory.
Colossians 1:26-28 – even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: to whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
Why is this important, because when Jesus returns and we see Him as He is – WE WILL BE LIKE HIM!
1 John 3:2-3 – Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
Conclusion: the church will be here on earth during the period called the great tribulation; but He will be with us through it all.
Matthew 28:20 –…. lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Hebrews 13:5 – …… I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Romans 8:35-39 – Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Do not deny yourself the power of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit that can equip you to be a witness for Jesus and enable you to endure what is coming upon the whole earth. He also equips us to declare the POWER of the GOSPEL of JESUS CHRIST.
