THE WAY YOU THINK
By W. G. Guy
Your thoughts, and the way you think, will determine your outlook and outcome. How you react to situations and circumstances is determined by how you think. This means that it is very important to guard your thoughts and what you focus your attention on.
Romans 12:2 – And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Here we are instructed to change the from the way the people of the world think by renewing your mind, or way of thinking, based on what the Word of God teaches. This means rejecting the common and base ways of the flesh and the worldly sinners. This is because the worldly and fleshly way of thinking produces an outcome of sinful, fleshly and worldly behavior.
Proverbs 23:7 – for as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:
The apostle Paul dealt with this issue in his letter to the Philippians where he gives eight critical elements of how and what to think on:
Philippians 4:8 – Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
The following is a more detail explanation of each element, and the corollary, to help us to understand the importance of the way we think, and what we should focus our attention on. Whatsoever things are:
True – open to the light, real, provable; not concealed, hidden or obscure
Honest – Venerable, worthy of acceptance; not deceptive or lies
Just – Equitable, right, holy; not fraudulent or corrupt
Pure – Clean, innocent, perfect; not foul, dirty or repugnant
Lovely – Beneficial, worthy of loving care; not predatory
Good Report – Reputable, proper; not defamatory
Virtue – Excellence, proper; not base or false pretense
Praise worthy – Commendable; not shameful
The end result of proper thinking is HOLINESS, which means separation from the ways of the carnal flesh and this sinful world. Thus showing your-self as a true, Christ filled, child of God, which is acceptable to Him.
Romans 12:1 – I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
The end result of right thinking is a fruitful Christ-centered life that will be rewarded eternally. Guard your thought life, what you think on, and what you focus your attention on! The results will be evident for others to see, which makes you a positive
witness for Christ.
A final thought; the national news media will fill your mind with very slanted or false information on many accounts. Do not focus on their news as it will shade your thinking in a negative way. Counter their leftist propaganda with the Word of God by reading the Bible which contains the GOOD NEWS! This is how you renew your mind!
