WHERE WAS GOD WHEN HE CREATED HEAVEN AND EARTH
by W. G. Guy
Genesis 1:1 – In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
It is clear from scripture that almighty God created the heavens and the earth along with all that is in our three dimensional universe. His power is so far beyond our ability to understand that we have to accept Him and His works by faith because they are more than we can comprehend.
Psalms 8:3 – When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
Psalms 19:1 – The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork, (the work of His hands).
Psalms 147:4 – He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.
The question presented here is; where was God when He made the heavens (plural) and the earth that we see and experience? Where is His abode, because it certainly cannot be in our visible universe since it did not exist until He created it.
2 Corinthians 12:2 - I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.
In this passage, the apostle Paul is speaking of when he died after being stoned to death, at which time his soul and spirit momentarily went to heaven to be with the Lord. He identified this place as “the third heaven”. This implies that there is a first and a second heaven.
The word “heaven” used in the Bible has multiple meanings and can apply to the sky, as well as outer space, etc. Bible scholars have erroneously identified the first and second heavens as follows: the first is the sky and atmosphere surrounding earth; the second heaven as being the starry space out beyond our atmosphere. This leaves the third heaven in their view as being some far away destination in outer space. One Bible scholar even said that heaven is a planet out there somewhere. These estimations are not at all accurate.
How could God reside somewhere out in our universe when He had not even created it yet? Our understanding is so limited that we fail to recognize just how great and magnificent our God is. We try to fit everything into a box that we can understand, but our little box of understanding is far too small for God to fit into, - (see 1 Corinthians 2:14).
Psalms 11:4 – The Lord is in his holy temple, the Lord’s throne is in heaven.
Where then, is heaven located? What you are about to read will have to expand your mind to accept. God is not in our limited three dimensional universe, because when He created it, He was not in it – He was outside of it! He was somewhere else. So where was He? He was in another dimension when He created our limited three dimensional universe.
The key to help you understand this is that we are in a three dimension universe. This means that our universe has limits to it. Those limits are time and space, (or distance). Everything in our dimension has a beginning and an end, a starting place and an ending place. In God’s dimension, there are no such limits as time and space (or distance). There is no time in God’s dimension which is also why He has no beginning or end. His dimension is both eternity and infinity!
Here is a simple illustration to help you understand: when you have an aquarium full of water and fish, you can see the entire aquarium all at the same time. You can also observe all of the activity that is in it, all at the same time. The fish living in it do not have that ability because they are in only one place at a time within that aquarium, and it takes time for them to move from one location to another within it.
Consider our three dimensional universe as being like a huge aquarium. God, being outside of our universe, can see it all at the same time and observes all that is going on. So where was God when He made heaven and earth? He was on His throne in His temple in the fifth dimension. The fourth dimension is the spirit world which we cannot see into, but co-exists with our third dimension.
We believers, as God's children, can ask God to intervene in our affairs – which He does in answer to our prayers. Our prayers have to pass through this fourth dimension to God, and His answers come back to us through that fourth (spirit world) dimension. This is where Satan and his forces try to oppose and resist our prayers, and their answers, as revealed in the Book of Daniel. There are conflicts in the spirit realm (the fourth dimension) that we do not see or know about unless they are revealed to us by the Lord for His purposes.
Daniel 10:10-13 Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
The Bible presents this information so that we understand the spiritual warfare that exists with Satan and His forces opposing us as God’s children. This report in scripture is also a reason why believers of old used to “pray through”, because they recognized the spiritual conflict that is raging until Jesus returns and puts an end to the enemy’s activity.
Please recognize that our God is far greater than we can even imagine. Likewise He is able to do much more than we ask or think, as we believe in Him.
Ephesians 3:20-21 – Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
Matthew 19:26 – But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
Our God is great and awesome! Especially when you consider His great love and compassion for us that He would send His only Son to redeem us from our fallen sinful state. God’s love is the greatest power in our universe!
John 3:16-17 – For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
