THE COMING OF JESUS CHRIST
IN ALL DOMINION AND AUTHORITY
by W. G. Guy
Genesis 1:26-28 – And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Please pay particular attention to the phrase when God said that mankind was to “have dominion over” which applied to “every living thing that moveth upon the earth. We need to understand that every Word that God said is established forever and will not pass away or be negated.
Luke 21:33 – Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
This also applies to the dominion that God gave to mankind over all the earth. His word still applies today, however there was a blockage that occurred early on by the trickery and deceit of the devil that happened in the Garden. Therefore God, in order to uphold His Word, executed a His plan of redemption of mankind to re-establish that dominion. That plan was that God would become a man which was why Jesus Christ, the son of God came and was born of a virgin and grew up in the normal course of a man.
After Jesus completed His redeeming work on the cross, shedding His blood for the sins of everyone in the whole world, He gave instructions to His followers to go forth in His name and proclaim the good news of redemption and to make disciples unto Him, (not of a church or denomination).
Matthew 28:19-20 – Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
But notice what Jesus declared to his discples right before He gave them the commission to go into all the world:
Matthew 28:18 – And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
This is very significant and most believers fail to grasp the meaning of what Jesus said here. That dominion that God gave to man as recorded in Genesis 1:28 is reiterated again as it has been restored by Jesus Christ – the Son of God who became a man and has all dominion. The following is how believers today can take dominion over all the earth since the resurrection of Christ from the grave:
John 14:13-14 – And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.
That dominion, power and authority is all IN HIS NAME. Notice what Jesus said right before He told them to ask in His name:
John 14:12 – Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
The problem today is that Christians just do not understand all that God provided through Jesus Christ and the authority restored to us that is in His name. The word ask used in John 14:12-14 above actually means to make demand in His name; to command what you are addressing by the authority of His name. You are not commanding Jesus to do anything, but making demand of the thing you are addressing in His name – be it demons, sickness or disease; (note that such things cannot exist in the Kingdom of God – or in His presence).
The use of His name can be described as you writing a check to another person who can make demand for the value of that check against your account because your name is written as the signatory authority to cash it. They make demand in your name.
Consider what this means; in His name we have authority and dominion over sickness and disease; over the devil and his demons; and over everything thing that moves or operates upon the earth – just as God had originally ordained. But this is all only through the name of Jesus Christ who is Lord of all. Consider the following examples of this in action:
Luke 10:1, 9, 17, 19 – After these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. 9 and heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. 17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. 19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Please recognize that these men were not the twelve that later became apostles, but they were ordinary followers of Jesus using the authority and power that He gave to them – just like He has given to true believers today through the use of His name.
Mark 16:15-18 – And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; they shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
It is high time for Christians to know and believe all that God has provided eternally through His Son and the power of His name. This is the greatest gift to receive as we celebrate the Christmas season.
Philippians 2:9-11 – Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
