WHY CHRISTIANS SHOULD BE INVOLVED IN POLITICS
By W. G. Guy
Over the years I have heard people say that Christians should not be involved in government and politics, and that it should not be a topic discussed in church. Obviously they do not know their Bible. Nearly every Book in the Bible deals with government, politics, kings, rulers, pharaohs, empires and religious regimes. The only Books in the bible that do not deal with political authority are the Book of Ruth, which is a personal story, and the Book of Job which deals with a spiritual entity and personal quality.
One of our Founding Fathers stated that, “The church is the moral compass of the government.” Therefore it is incumbent upon Christians to take an active role in influencing our government. Failure to do so means that there is no “moral compass” to guide and direct our national affairs. Thus we have the result of our current national condition of massive corruption and its associated violence; just like Jesus warned would happen as it was in the days of Noah.
If you don’t believe that the Bible deals with government and politics, consider the following overview of the Books of the Bible and how they deal with the subject:
From this brief summary of the Books of the Bible you can see that we are to be involved in the affairs of government, especially to be that “moral compass”.
Revelation 5:10 – and hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.
God purpose for the saints is to be part of Chris’s government and we are to rule and reign with Him. We need to start practicing now as leaders in His government. Not exercising our God given ability means that the godless and wicked are unopposed in governing in corruption. The least we should do is pray for those in leadership positions.
1 Timothy 2:1-3 – I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
Now you know why Christians should become involved in government! We are going to be part of His eternal government. So we better practice getting involved now!

If you don’t believe that the Bible deals with government and politics, consider the following overview of the Books of the Bible and how they deal with the subject:
- Genesis: Abraham deals with the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities of the plain. He also deals with Egypt’s Pharaoh, Abimelech King of Gerar, and also the dukes and rulers of Edom. Also covered is the global empire started by Nimrod called Babel; then consider Joseph and hiss dealings in Egypt with the Pharaoh, and who himself becoming the second in command of that empire.

- Deuteronomy: Deals with the rededication of the principles of Israel’s theological form of government and civil order.
- Joshua: Israel’s conflict and conquest of the nations, kingdoms and governments who were their godless opposition in the Promised Land.

- Song of Solomon: The wisest of kings expressing private affections toward a woman he loved.
- The Major and Minor prophets: all deal with moral issues and problems of Israel’s governmental/political leadership. (Note that God employs the service of His prophets when His people lose their moral compass and allow sin to dominate their lives. This is true also for today even though many refuse to acknowledge the work of God’s prophets.
- Daniel: this book deals explicitly with political and governmental leadership of all the major empires and prominent nations from the time of Babylon right up to the return of Jesus Christ.
- The New Testament Gospels and Acts: Each deal with the King of Kings and His role in our lives and how political and religious leadership resisted Him, His followers and His coming Kingdom.
- The Epistles of Paul, Peter, James and John: All deal with how we are to live in accord with regard to God’s provision and how to deal with others; especially with governing authority,
- Revelation: This Book deals with the ultimate King whose Kingdom and Government that will rule for all eternity.
