The Sin of Abortion
The practice of abortion is almost as old as the profession of prostitution itself. The purpose of sexual intimacy is for the purpose of reproductive procreation, but has been used abusively for recreation. Unwanted pregnancy is considered an inconvenience to such inappropriate activity – especially outside of legitimate marriage relationships.
An ancient Roman poet living before the time of Christ wrote: “Now she that wishes to be beautiful harms her womb, and rare in these days is the one who would be a parent”. This writing indicates that the practice of aborting babies was wide-spread way back in ancient Rome.
Abortion was also practiced prior to the Roman Empire by the Greeks who are recognized for their knowledge of anatomy and the establishment of the medical profession. Hippocrates established a medical school so renowned that for centuries all medical school graduates swore to the “Hippocratic Oath” developed by Hippocrates for the betterment of the medical profession as a genuine service to humanity. One line if the Hippocratic Oath states: “….I will not give to a woman a pessary (a device that is inserted into the uterus) to produce abortion”. No wonder the Hippocratic Oath is no longer subscribed to as a credo for the medical profession today.
The sin of abortion can be traced back to ancient Israel in Biblical accounts of their rebellion and disobedience to God. Israel was instructed to eliminate idolaters from the land so they would not have a negative influence on God’s people. Israel failed to do so and thus adopted their pagan and godless worship practices and idolatry.
Psalms 106:34-36 – They did not destroy the peoples, Concerning whom the Lord had commanded them, But they mingled with the Gentiles And learned their works; They served their idols, Which became a snare to them.
Israel began to worship Baal (Baalim), the god of the occult and Ashtoreth, the goddess of sex, indicated as Baal’s wife.
Judges 2:13 – They forsook the Lord and served Baal and the Ashtoreth.
The worship of Ashtoreth was very popular because her worship practices were observed by all manner of sexual indulgence and perversion. This gave Ashtoreth wide appeal leading to such immoral worship by every major empire throughout history. She has been known by different names by each society but still basically the same goddess of sex.
Ashtoreth is the name the Hebrews used for this Cannanite goddess; called Astarte by the Philistines; Ishtar by the Babylonians; Venice by the Greeks; and Estre by the Saxons. (By the way, Estre is where the King James church of England got the word “Easter” from. This explains the reason for the eggs and bunny rabbits as symbols of Easter since they represent the result of sexual activity.)
Israel willingly embraced this pagan worship because of its appeal to carnal, selfish, lustful nature of the flesh. Even Solomon ended up worshipping Ashtoreth since he had a problem with sexual lust and felt he needed numerous wives and concubines.
1 Kings 11:5 – For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites.
Ahab’s wife Jezebel promoted the worship of Ashtoreth and sexual immorality. The name Jezebel has since come to be a term that refers to one who practices sexual looseness. This name is even referred to in one of the seven churches in Revelation 2:20.
The worship of the sex goddess Ashtoreth was so popular and revered that she was given a title of “Queen of Heaven” as referred to in Jeremiah 7:18and Jeremiah 44:16-19 and 25. (Note the cakes baked in honor of the Queen of Heaven, a practice of the Roman Catholic Church even still today – “Hot Cross Buns”.
Worship practices of Ashtoreth center on the most revolting forms of sexual activity and perversions, all of which are still in practice within our society today but under various identifying names. Priests wore women’s clothes while officiating and women were freely given to male worshippers to perform any and everything imaginable. Orgies were the standard of worship and celebration.
The major hindrance to such loose immoral worship activity was pregnancy. Thus pregnancies were regularly terminated through various means of abortion, also referred as “sacrifice” to the goddess of sex.
Psalm 106:37-39 – They even sacrificed their sons And their daughters to demons, And shed innocent blood, The blood of their sons and daughters, Whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan; And the land was polluted with blood. Thus they were defiled by their own works, And played the harlot by their own deeds.
These sacrifices of children (babies) to the goddess of sex is referred to as “the shedding of innocent blood” in many places in scripture. Abortion IS the shedding of innocent blood because the Bible specifically tells us that “the life of the flesh is in the blood” – Leviticus 17:11. In verse 14 it says the life of ALL flesh, including the unborn babies, is in the blood. Now consider the fact that in just 22 days from conception a child has its own blood and his heart begins to beat coursing life’s blood through its developing body. That child has LIFE because it has blood. (Abortionists prefer to use the medical term “fetus” instead of child or baby in order to remove any association as human person.) Abortion terminates that life and sheds innocent blood. This practice so angered God that He took punitive action against His own people - Israel.
Psalm 106:40-42 – Therefore the wrath of the Lord was kindled against His people, So that He abhorred His own inheritance. And He gave them into the hand of the Gentiles, And those who hated them ruled over them. Their enemies also oppressed them, And they were brought into subjection under their hand.
People need to recognize that God will judge idolatry, the worship of false gods because of the results or by-product of such worship. Consider the worship of Ashtoreth as most vile since so many women today sacrifice their babies to this goddess of sex. They are practicing idolatry – the worship of sex or their own body; and they call it “Pro-Choice”.
Since the legalization of abortion in the United States by the U.S. Supreme Court in Roe vs Wade ruling, about 60 million babies have been slaughtered. This is all done in defiance of God’s law – “Thou shalt not kill (murder)”. Needless to say, God is not pleased by our national reputation and gross sin of shedding innocent blood. We as a nation shall reap the reward of sowing to the flesh in what is referred to as “Pro Choice”.
God’s Word holds those who pass laws and make rulings against righteous living responsible and they will pay for such wickedness if they fail to repent. Such actions are destruction to His creation and desire to bless.
Psalm 119:126 – It is time for You to act, O Lord, For they have regarded Your law as void.
Psalm 94:20 – Shall the throne of iniquity, which devises evil by law, Have fellowship with You?
Proverbs 29:2 – When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan.
Proverbs 29:12 – If a ruler pays attention to lies, All his servants become wicked.
Isaiah 5:20 – Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
Isaiah 10-1 – Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees (laws), Who write misfortune, Which they have prescribed (legislated).
It is amazing that our government and the majority of our own immoral population has greater regard for protecting whales, insects and rarely seen and little known animals than for our own children. How can we survive as a people when we are so self-destructive. Such sinful selfish behavior is actually part of the character and nature of Satan which pro-abortion people are willfully following.
John 10:10 – The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
America will suffer the consequences of our behavior as God backs away from His blessing, provision and protection. God allowed His people Israel to be taken captive and oppressed by their enemies – multiple times – until they repented and returned to worship and honor Him and His commands.
America has shed much innocent blood that cries out to God who will not withhold the consequences. Consider Ezekiel 22:2-13, 27 – summarized as follows as referring to Washington D.C. the seat of our ungodly laws:
Verse 2 – a city of bloodshed and detestable practices
Verse 3 – idolatry and bloodshed initiated there
Verse 4 – places importance on what is wrong and immoral thus becoming a reproach, (consider
Proverbs 14:34 – Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people.)
Verse 6 – rulers use their authority (laws) to shed blood
Verse 7 – they treat parents and proper parenting with contempt
Verse 9 – slanderous men use deceitful words, stories, presentations to justify shedding blood (much
like the A.C.L.U and Planned Parenthood, etc.)
Verse 10 – dishonor a father’s bed (by eliminating his procreation of a child)
Verse 11 – highlights adultery, incest and sexual immorality
Verse 12 – accept pay to shed blood – abortion clinics
Verse 13 – unjust gain for shedding blood – politicians paid by abortion lobbies
Verse 27 – rulers, leaders (politicians) profiting from shed blood
If God chastised Jerusalem, His city, because of these same sins that are far more prevalent today in our nation, how can we possibly think that He shall not also severely chastise America. Why, because God hates abortion:
Proverbs 6:16-19 - These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: a proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood (abortion). An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift to running to mischief. A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
AMERICA! STOP SHEDDING INNOCENT BLOOD! STOP ABORTION!
WE MUST REPENT AND CHANGE OUR IMMORAL, UNGODLY WAYS!
