REAL TREASURE
By W. G. Guy
What do you value most in this life? If a major catastrophe occurred, what do you consider to be most valuable that you would take with you should you have to evacuate? When I considered this question I immediately concluded that the Holy Bible, the Word of God, is the most valuable thing in my possession that I would take with me.
Why? Because of all the promises and provisions that the Lord has offered are recorded in His Word.
2 Corinthians 1:20 – For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.
These are what will sustain me in any disaster; natural or man-made. Consider the following:
Matthew 6:31-33 – Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.
Romans 8:31-32 – What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Philippians 4:19 – But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Matthew 24:35 – Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
Everything I need is in the Word of God, and promised by Jesus Christ! Not only that, but these promises are eternal, and matter not what situations we face or experience. As you trust in Him and His Word, you will be at peace and have no fear of what you are facing.
Isaiah 26:3-4 – Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee; because he trusteth on thee. Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength.
Philippians 3:6-7 – Be careful (anxious) for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
God’s Word testifies of His perfect love for you; and perfect love casts out all fear. Thus, when you commit your circumstances to Him, he removes fear of those conditions from you.
1 John 4:18 – There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
Thus God’s Word is more valuable than any material possession you have! Compare the value of God’s promises with what man thinks is valuable:
Luke 16:14-15 – And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things: and they derided him. And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed (as valuable) among men is abomination in the sight of God.
In God’s Word, I have the promises of God to provide everything that I need; both now, and forever: all in and through the name of Jesus Christ! So what is most valuable to you in this life? What do you treasure, and what would you take with you in the event of a dreadful situation: material things, or the Word of God?
How do you access all these marvelous promises of God’s Word for you?
Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.
The LORD knows how to see you through any situation or circumstance: just ask Him!
Matthew 7:7-8 – Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
Faith and trust in the LORD, and in His Word, will carry you through and provide all you need. Therefore –
Matthew 6:19-21 – Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
The Word of God is more valuable than gold: this is real treasure! It is your survival tool!
Psalm 19:8-10 – The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is puire, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
